There are many tools available to enable Aero in Windows 7 Basic. I will give a short tutorial on how to enable Aero in Windows 7 without using any software. Running this utility will automatically restart your system to apply the changes. However, before deploying it you have to deactivate the antivirus to allow the registry and system file modifications. If you want to revert the changes, simply run the executable again. So, most of the time when the Aero themes are greyed out, your hardware does not support WDDM.
On the Window Color and Appearance screen, select the Enable transparency check box so there is NO check mark in the box. Click Save changes to save the setting and close the Window Color and Appearance screen. However, in some scenarios, Windows Aero may not be turned on, or is having problem to enable. The scenarios include no supported video driver been found during installation, and after updating the VGA graphic display card driver, Windows 7 does not automatically enable Aero Glass effect.
